Québec City, December 21, 2009 – Ministère des Transports and its partners Ministère de la Sécurité publique and Ministère de la Justice, together with the associated police departments, remind road users traveling during the holiday season to watch out for photo radar and red light cameras in the Montréal, Montérégie, and Chaudière-Appalaches regions.
Before taking to the road, drivers can check www.objectifsecurite.gouv.qc.ca to find out the exact location of the 15 devices in operation under the photo radar and red light camera pilot project. The road locations where they have been placed are also clearly marked. Three types of equipment are in use: red light cameras, fixed photo radar, and mobile photo radar.
Drivers have been subject to fines since August 19, 2009, if the vehicle they are driving is caught by these devices. No demerit points are entered in their driving records. All funds collected for the duration of the pilot project go into the Road Safety Fund and are used to finance road safety and road victim assistance programs.
The purpose of this project is to improve road safety and save lives through better speed limit and red light compliance.
